Cows in Varthur Lake

A road crosses the south-eastern edge of Varthur Lake, giving us a good view of the water as we drive between Whitefield and Varthur. One day it also gave me a good view of this cow, as she stood in the middle of the lake.

She wasn’t alone. Other cows were standing in the lake too.

And birds – cattle egrets – were standing on top of the cows.

Bangalore has had June rains, and other parts of India have had terrible floods, but this water has nothing to do with the monsoon season. The lake just offers a place to cool off, water to drink and green weeds to eat.

I’m sure there are a lot of chemical, biological and serpentine worries in that water.
